Morris and Whiteside Auctions, LLC is producing the auction. Formerly held in Charleston, SC and known as the Charleston Art Auction, it was the best annual auction Charleston has ever had. Unfortunately, it is less expensive to have the auction in Hilton Head since so many people bid online and on the phone today.

Internet bidding is very easy on their website. For Internet bidding you can go to www.icollector.com. Absentee and telephone bids are also accepted. A complete list of the lots to be auctioned can be found at www.hiltonheadauction.com and all the information on how to bid online. Their phone number is 843-842-4433.

Jack A. Morris Jr. is the driving force behind the auctions. J. Ben Whiteside, Jr. and David G. Leahy are his partners. American Art Collector magazine is also a participant, as they have been in the past.

Most of the paintings have a Charleston or South Carolina connection. Lowcountry landscapes and water scenes that would interest local antique and art collectors dominate the auction. They have a page on the previous auction sales results.

The Charleston auctions have always been a very entertaining and fun event. Also, it is nice to see the paintings in person and in their frames to get a better idea of what they really look like and how big they are. Reproduced images often look quite different when you see the real thing. Pictures of previous Charleston auctions can be found at www.clydeantique.com, the website on antique shopping in Charleston.
