The way people are treating animals across the world is complete disheartening. Most people have the idea that the poor treatment of animals is an ideal only the U.S.A. is adapting; however, they could not be more wrong. According the PETA on Nov. 4, 2013, it is a serious problem in the United Kingdom (UK).
Chickens in the UK are bred with the sole purpose of producing eggs. They are not fed well, and never are able to walk around nor see natural light, only a lighted barn. Despite all the above conditions, they are still labeling these chicken eggs as range –free chickens. It is hard to imagine what the chickens that are not considered range-free living conditions are.
The chickens are typically producing eggs for about a year. They feed and care for these amazing creatures by spending less than one cent on each chicken. Each egg is worth about 7.6 cents, so you can see how this is a very profitable business.
In the UK alone, they consume 11 billion eggs per year. That is over 30 million a day. This is why there is such a push for the chickens to produce eggs, and when they can’t, they are destroyed. When do we, as people, stand up and demand our animals be treated better? Who will be the chicken’s voice? PETA, that is highly unlikely.
