The Hershey Story and Chocolate Lab

Just a few miles up the road from Harrisburg sits the small town of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Yes, that Hershey, home of Chocolate Town, USA. Hershey hosts HersheyPark, The Hershey Story, The Hershey Museum, the Hershey Bears hockey team, and the Milton Hershey School. There is so much to do in one small town.

To learn more about the Hershey story, head to 63 West Chocolate Avenue to The Hershey Story. Here you will find the history of Milton Hershey, the Hershey Chocolate Company, and the legacy he left behind. The museum portion of The Hershey Story consists of five permanent exhibits: Failures to Fortunes; Sweet Innovations; Power of Promotion; Hershey Builds Hershey; and A Living Legacy. The exhibits detail the steps Milton Hershey took to make his idea into one of the largest chocolate companies in the world. In addition to the permanent exhibits, visit the special exhibit currently displayed entitled Living the Vision, which shares the story of the Milton Hershey School and is included in the price of admission.

The Hershey Story museum does not just want you to learn about the history of Hershey, but learn about what they are famous for as well, chocolate. Chocolate Lab at The Hershey Story allows visitors to learn hands on about the chocolate making process. Through the month of February the Chocolate Lab hosts The Heart of Chocolate and Try It With Truffles. The Heart of Chocolate lets you “Learn the differences between milk, dark, and white chocolate and create a “heart-ful” chocolate valentine,” while the Try It With Truffles gives you the chance to “try your hand at creating your own hand-made confections in this class. Hand-roll fillings, dip in chocolate, and then customize your treats with toppings and textures.” As a special treat during Hershey’s Chocolate-Covered February, all visitors to the Chocolate Lab receive a free packet of one dozen chocolate recipe note cards.

The Hershey Story makes visiting easy. An off-street free parking garage allows for easy access to the museum without worrying about meters or finding street parking. A free shuttle from the museum to Hershey’s Chocolate World opens up additional fun for the family. The museum offers an AAA discount of 10% off your ticket price, which includes the museum and Chocolate Lab. There is also a discount if you purchase museum and Chocolate Lab tickets together.

My husband and I live in Nevada and stopped by Hershey on our visit to the East in our RV. We visited the Chocolate World and decided to see the museum as well. We used the shuttle bus for transportation. I loved the museum and discovered many new facts about Hershey. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the shuttle bus ride over and back as well. The driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. She had us all laughing as she told us about the things we passed on the ride and some things that we missed in the museum. Who knew the first roller coaster was actually called "The Joy Ride"?
