The heroine of the day is Egyptian Shahira Amin - she quit Nile TV

She was happy, liberated and relieved she told the BBC. She couldn't handle it anymore, as the deputy head at Egyptian state owned Nile TV. They did not want her to report the truth, and she couldn't see herself being part of the farcical propaganda machine. So, she quit.

Egyptian society is delivering heroes on a daily basis it seems, since the popular uprising against Hosni Mubarak's regime started on January 25, 2011.

Coincidentally, Amin walked out on a day that witnessed many reporters being assaulted by pro-Mubarak thugs. Some of the international news most famous faces were seen on footage, including Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour, Anderson Cooper and dozens of others. They were being shouted down, and in the case of Cooper, he was beaten twice.

Amin's voice was heard repeatedly on Al Jazeera's coverage today, with a heavily accented British English, saying that she refused to be a hypocrit. She added that many Egyptians are ignorant of the events but she thought that they were beginning to realize what was happening. On this evening's Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, Sharira Amin was mentioned during Rachel's blunt explanation that the Mubarak regime had planned the attacks on foreign and local journalists as they realized they might be running out of options.

When Amin spoke to Al Jazeera, she said she was disturbed that she could not report that people were dying in Tahrir Square. Sharira Amin used to work for CNN International, and you can see a photo of her here with Ted Turner.

This interviewer has disgusted me !!!!
While Gilad Shalit is waiting to go home after being held captive for five years and four months, she asks him questions such as 'what will you do for the Palestinians after your release' and 'what are your future plans'. For god's sake !!!!!!! The man hasnt seen the sun since he was 19. Why on earth would you ask him questions that are so inappropriate? and hold him from being united with his family???
I was horrified by this interview. He was obviously very uncomfortable.
    What a disgrace !!!

Shahira Amin is the Egyptian Television Journalist who interrogated Gilad Shalit on Egyptian TV before he was released and returned to his waiting family in Israel.
What kind of person interviews a 25 year old prisoner, only minutes after he was released from more than 5 years of cruel captivity and asks such insensitive and idiotic questions ?
" What did you learn ? " she asked a terrified and fragile Gilad. Did she think he was sent to be tortured in order to learn something ? Her lack of insight, compassion , common sense and intelligence is an affront to journalism and humanity. Be ashamed !
I can only assume that she is now employed by Hamas and not the BBC.

Shame on you interviewing the Israeli Soldier Gilad Shalit, before he was even allowed to speak with his parents.
