The Herb Day Festival celebrates all things herbal

The Ohio Herb Education Center in Gahanna, Ohio (near Columbus) is offering a free, family-friendly festival on Saturday May 10 where herb enthusiasts can come and celebrate the many contributions herbs make to our lives.

Herb Day Known as the "Herb Capital of Ohio", the city of Gahanna is playing host to this annual event being held at the Ohio Herb Education Center located at the Nafzger-Miller House which was built in 1855 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Presented by Mockingbird Meadows Herbal Health Farm, the Herb Day Festival is taking place from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Ohio Herb Education Center and Creekside Plaza. Herb Day festivities include paddle boat rides on Big Walnut Creek (weather permitting), herbal trail self-guided tours, herbal samplings at the Herb Center and various lectures on herbs including 'Three Local Medicinal Natives That Deserve a Second Look" and "Wicked and Weird: Stories and Cautionary Tales."

A variety of demonstrations will also be offered. Visitors will be able to learn how to make homemade, healthy herbal snacks and learn about "Lavender, Tarragon and Thyme: Better Living Through Cooking with Fresh Herbs." Guests can even learn how to make a fragrant herbal whisk broom.

There will be live musical performances all day by the Shaw Brothers and singer Casey Richmond in addition to performances by Gahanna Jefferson choir students.

More than 30 herbal, garden-related and artisan vendors will also be on hand with merchandise to purchase. The Herb's Center's gift shop (featuring herbal and Ohio-made products) will also be open. And be sure to check out the plant sale with over 3000 plants.

The Ohio Herb Education Center is located at 110 Mill Street in Gahanna, Ohio. Gahanna is 143 miles from Cleveland and it is approximately a 2.5 hour drive.
