The gun control debate (Video)

The huge issue that currently seems to be dividing America, and isn’t there always one, is the gun control debates. The 2011 census results show there are approximately 314 million people in the US according to to Google Public data (http://goo.gl/WeSBz), while The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) represents only about 4.3 Million people. That is about 1% of the population, by no means a big number, and nowhere near a majority.

Before we go any further, let me state, that I do believe people should be able to own guns; Hunting rifles for hunting to feed themselves and their family, and small handguns for protection. What I and millions of other Americans do believe is that someone should not have an excess of weapons, and there is no place for semi or fully automatic assault weapons in the hands of an individual, unless that individual is going to war. There is no valid argument otherwise, none!

Another issue that is a hot topic with the gun debates is firearm registration. If you are not planning to use your weapon(s) to commit a crime, then why are you so worried about registering it? Your right to bear arms is protected by the second amendment of the US Constitution. If you register your weapons, that doesn’t mean they can take them away, it just means if your weapon is used to commit a crime, then you are more likely to be caught. This is a wonderful idea, and many states already require registration for hand guns, it would make it much easier for law enforcement to protect us all as they would be able to get the unregistered weapons out of the hands of criminals.

So use your brain, show people that you are smarter than they think you are, and try to understand what is trying to be accomplished with the gun control laws that the Federal and many state governments are considering right now. Most of the people that I have listened to that are defending the right to keep their guns do not really understand exactly what is going on with the current gun control debates. They are assuming they know, then spreading ignorance to others and fueling a fire where one need not be.

The government is not trying to take your guns, the government is not out to get you, you do not need assault weapons for any reason whatsoever, and just remember, you may have the right to bear arms right now under the US Constitution, but that can easily be amended and wiped out, just like prohibition was in the 1930’s. There is no reason to be a psychotic fanatic about gun legislation, because your gun ownership rights are likely safe, and if you are worried about registering your weapons, then you are probably one of the individuals who does not need a weapon in the first place.
