On Saturday, November 9, Guitar Center of Winter Park and Orlandobands.com present the Guitar Center Women in Music Showcase at the Guitar Center of Winter Park. This FREE event will feature live in-store performances by Orlando bands Arcadence and Anyone’s Guess plus Orlando singer/songwriters Andy Starkey, Carly Jo Jackson, Chelsea Hamme and Casey Conroy for this special show.
The Orlando Local Music Examiner interviewed several of the women about the upcoming show and what they were looking forward to most with this show. Sanja Jovanovic, the lead singer and bassist in Orlando band Anyone’s Guess said, “I think I’m looking forward to the experience the most. You don’t get to play a show at a music store very often. I also hear we get to use their instruments and equipment, which is an equivalent of being able to borrow any car you want for a day. It’s a pretty cool concept and a genius marketing idea if you ask me.”
Orlando/Boca Raton based singer/songwriter Carly Jo Jackson said, “I have never performed in a store before, so this is a completely new experience for me and I am really looking forward to it. Everyone shopping in a Guitar Center is definitely into the music scene, so that should make for a good audience. Coincidentally, I am in the Guitar Center Singer Songwriter 3 with Don Was contest and this will be the last day for voting, so it is cool that I am performing there. I already won a $250 gift card in one of the contest’s bi-weekly challenges, so I may do a little shopping!”
Makenzie Kamal, lead vocals and guitar in Orlando band Arcadence had this to say, “I’m looking forward to reaching out to people who may not have heard of us, connecting with other female artists, and enjoying the other bands’ sets.”
The ladies were also interviewed about the impact Ben Gardner and Orlandobands.com has had on the Orlando local music scene. Kamal had this to say, “As always, I feel that Orlandobands.com has a great and positive impact on the local music scene by providing us with so many performance opportunities and educating us on the industry at the same time. I think I speak for all the locals who have had the pleasure of working with Orlandobands.com when I say that we are so lucky to have them!”
Jackson said, “Orlandobands.com provides so many opportunities for local artists to be seen and heard. They have something for nearly every genre of music. You always get something special out of an Orlandobands.com show, whether you are a performer or in the audience.”
Jovanovic had this to say, “I’ve known the founder of Orlandobands.com, Ben Gardner, since the very beginning of the venture. There’s a lot more to it than just a website, which I’m not sure many people are aware of. I was actually a writer for the site for a while and helped with production of their early shows. Ben’s a very driven man and he’s definitely paved a solid way for many artists to get access to press, advertisement, shows, sponsorships, and many other things they would otherwise not be able to get to. Anyone’s Guess has worked with them for years and will continue to do so. If you’re a musician, venue owner, promoter, writer, anything music related in Orlando, I highly recommend signing up for the Orlandobands.com mailing list and taking a look at how you can help the local music scene.”
This FREE special event is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. The Guitar Center of Winter Park is located at 520 N Orlando Ave #130.
