You still have a chance to experience Christmas magic this week at Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. Every year, starting in November, Gaylord has an all-out Christmas season celebration called Christmas on the Potomac.

“Bigger, brighter and more brilliant than any other Christmas event in the Capital Region, Gaylord National's Christmas on the Potomac celebration presents all the joy, wonder and merriment of the holiday season on a grand scale,” reads the official web site commentary. This is the third time this annual event has taken place.

Features of Gaylord National’s Christmas on the Potomac include: a 60-foot glass Tree of Light, indoor snowfalls nightly and two million twinkling lights. ICE! Is Gaylord’s crowning glory and one of the event’s most popular attractions, which includes an incredible interactive wonderland carved from two million pounds of ice.

This year’s ICE theme is modeled after the beloved Dr. Seuss classic Christmas story—How The Grinch Stole Christmas. This ice-sculpted display, carved from two million pounds of ice, features 10 colorful scenes straight out of the pages of the original storybook. Come walk through Whoville and stumble upon the infamous Grinch along with his dog Max, Cindy Lou Who and other sites. Visitors of all ages are also invited to join in the adventure and even slip on down a two-story slides made entirely out of ice.

The Grinch will be hanging around until Jan. 9. This year’s ICE! theme was voted ABA’s (American Bus Association) Top 100 Events in North America. This award is an annual compilation of the best events for group travel in Canada and the United States. Other awards Gaylord received over the years include: The American Automobile Association’s (AAA) 12 Most Festive Places to Find Holiday Spirit, in 2009, and the Orbitz Top 10 Hotels Decked Out for the Holidays, in 2009.

Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center is located at 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745. For more information, call 301-965-2000 or visit
