The greatest love of all; supporting end to factory farming with Martha Stewart

Domestic diva Martha Stewart once again lends her considerable celebrity to educating the public about the horrors of factory farming on behalf of Farm Sanctuary and herself.  Addressing people nation-wide, miss Martha tells it like it is; animals in pain from non-anesthetized surgical procedures, in agony from being torn away from their newborns, in despair from living a life in unthinkable filth, never to raise their faces to the sun or breathe clean, fresh air.  That is the life of a factory farmed animal, and it doesn’t have to be.

If the veil could be lifted so that every single consumer; mothers, sons, daughters, fathers, grandmothers, could all see what these animals endure every single day of their very short lives, most would probably stop eating meat altogether.  Factory farming is archaic and barbaric.  The only people who benefit from factory farms are the owners who rake in the hard-earned money from families who blindly purchase the cheapest meats so that their children can have dinner.  Cheap meat doesn’t mean healthy meat.  In reality, its tortured meat, raised on growth hormones (harmful to the health of children), antibiotics (which causes new strains of drug-resistant bacteria that can be fatal because they are used "to compensate for unsanitary conditions on many industrial farms":), and fattened on a diet of mostly corn which lends to the ever growing epidemic of obesity in America.  That is what cheap, factory-farmed meat will do for you, the consumer.

However, organically raised livestock that is allowed to graze on grass (as nature intended), and roam freely in a pasture is far healthier and recommended by physicians and nutritionists.  Naturally, and humanely raised beef, chicken, and pork, does not require growth hormones to fatten them up quicker, and do not require antibiotics unless something is actually physically ailing the animal.  They eat grass (think of it as salad), then you are eating salad.   The animals raised organically are not in distress, can be with their young, and be in the comforting company of other animals.  All animals are social by nature.  All animals need the same things that we do; clean water, fresh air, nutritious food, sunlight, freedom to move about, and the ability to socialize with other like animals.  Animals raised as food deserve our absolute respect and compassion, and there is no reason we can’t give that to them by changing laws and regulating these feedlots and factory farms so that they must provide the proper care and environment for this standard of care.

In the spirit of the upcoming Valentine’s Day, Farm Sanctuary, of whom Martha Stewart constantly lends her support, is offering a wonderful way to show your love not only to your sweetheart, but to animals everywhere, with a Vegan Milk Chocolate Heart.  This delicious treat is made from non-animal ingredients.  Can you think of anything nicer than giving a sweet gift that never caused harm or abuse to an animal?  Click this link to order your Vegan Milk Chocolate Heart, and help spread the word that factory farming must come to an end.  Proceeds go towards helping care for the animals rescued living at Farm Sanctuary.
