Teams decked out in matching gear, from shark hats to Mario Bros. suits, raced around Madison on Saturday, Aug. 24, solving puzzles and completing challenges, all in the name of fun for the Madison Great Urban Race. After the race, the 21 and older participants celebrated at the BACARDI Great Urban Race after party with BACARDI OakHeart cocktails; a bold spiced rum straight from the heart of charred oak barrels. Developed in tribute to the modern day adventurer, BACARDÍ OakHeart was the natural post-race cocktail choice, following a day of physical and mental challenges during the adventure-based competition.
Participants had their work cut out for them. Sample puzzles on the Great Urban Race website show what the intense scavenger hunt could consist of; Sudoku puzzles, word searches, codes, and brain teasers; all just to find their next destination. Once at the destination participants had to complete a task and provide some sort of proof at the finish line. The Great Urban Race has been known to ask people to do celebrity impressions, strike a funny pose, or even get a makeover. Some of the Madison Great Urban Race stops included Lake Wingra, which was welcome given the fantastic weather, The Chakra House (a holistic health, yoga, and spa) and Lucky’s Bar & Grille where participants 21 and older completed the BACARDI OakHeart Plinko challenge.
BACARDI OakHeart helped the thrill-seeking participants, winners or not, celebrate the completion the Great Urban Race. After cocktails for the 21+ participants, the winners were announced at the Great Urban Race after party.
