The Great Trail Festival brings Ohio's colonial era to life

Clevelanders have the opportunity to experience a piece of Ohio's historical past while at the same time enjoy a variety of arts and crafts and unique live entertainment at the 33rd annual Great Trail Festival in Malvern, Ohio being offered over two upcoming weekends (August 23-24 and August 30-31 and September 1). It is approximately a 90 minute drive from Cleveland.

Great Trail Festival Ohio's largest French and Indian War-era festival, the Great Trail Festival is a celebration of Ohio's history in addition to a celebration of American folk art with contemporary and country crafting. This family-friendly, educational event offers a wide range of fun experiences and activities for all ages.

Special Historical Note: The Great Trail was a major footpath for Native Americans that connected the Mid-Atlantic region to the Great Lakes region.

Activities at the Great Trail Festival include historical lectures and demonstrations by costumed guides (including fur trappers, blanket traders, silversmiths and wood carvers), battle re-enactments (daily at 1 p.m.), a tour of a historic grist mill, and a chance to see a live buffalo herd.

The Festival will also be the site of the State of Ohio Tomahawk Throwing Contest on Monday, September 1 at 1 p.m.

There will be plenty of live period music in addition to clog dancers, fiddlers and Scottish pipers.

Storybrook Craft Village features numerous artisans offering distinctive arts & crafts and handcrafted gift items for purchase.

A wide variety of kettle-cooked food including ham & bean soup with Johnnycake, Indian fry bread and apple dumplings will be available for purchase.

Hours for the Great Trail Festival are 10 a.m. - 5p.m. all days of the Festival. A reminder: The Festival runs for two weekends (August 23-24 and August 30, 31 and September 1). Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for youth (10-18) and children 10 and under are free. Parking is free.
