'The Great Trade-In': Trade used baby gear for a discount at Toys'R'Us

Toys'R'Us now promoting "The Great Trade-In"

Toys’R’Us, Inc. recently unveiled a national program—dubbed the “Great Trade-In”—which gives customers the opportunity to trade-in used cribs, car seats and other baby products in exchange for savings on a new item.  From August 28 through September 20, all Toys’R’Us and Babies’R’Us locations in the United States will accept returns of the following used items: cribs, car seats, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards and high chairs.

With the sales of used products on the rise, the "Great Trade-In" was designed to call attention to the fact that certain used baby products, such as car seats and cribs, may not be the best candidates to be reused or resold due to safety concerns.  In fact, less than 30% of recalled items are actually returned when a baby product is recalled, which means that 70% of the dangerous items remain in circulation as a potential hazard to children.

Recalls on children’s products can be found on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website as well as by RSS feed.

Beyond recalls, certain older and used baby products can raise other safety concerns.  This could include products that have been damaged or others where advances in product safety have rendered older models non-compliant with the latest standards.

Shoppers who take advantage of the return promotion will receive 20% off the purchase of any new item in those product categories from selected manufacturers.  Manufacturers participating in the “Great Trade-In” include Baby Cache, Babi Italia, Baby Trend, Bertini, Britax, Chicco, Contours by Kolcraft, Cosco, Delta, Eddie Bauer, Evenflo, Graco, Jeep, Nature's Purest by Summer Infant, Safety 1st and Sorelle.  Customers wishing to take advantage of the trade-in promotion must purchase an item from the aforementioned manufacturers on the same day of trade for their used items.  Day care centers and other organizations are encouraged to contact their local store to ensure adequate quantity of merchandise.
