Here is an official press release regarding The Great Purple Cupcake Project, March 20 – 26, to raise funds for The Anita Kaufmann Foundation (AKFUS).
03.16.2011– Overland Park, Kan. – Kansas City’s Smallcakes, which opened its third metro location in Lee’s Summit, Mo. one month ago, is joining cupcake bakeries from across the United States for The Great Purple Cupcake Project, March 20 – 26. The nationwide campaign is an initiative of The Anita Kaufmann Foundation, a public charity raising awareness of epilepsy and seizures and a supporting campaign of Purple Day, the global day of epilepsy awareness held every year on March 26. Purple Day was founded in 2008 by nine-year-old Cassidy Megan of Nova Scotia, Canada who was motivated by her own struggles with epilepsy.
Each of Smallcakes’ three Kansas City metro locations will participate in The Great Purple Cupcake Project and ten percent of the week’s sales of the Purple Cupcake will be donated to The Anita Kaufmann Foundation. Smallcakes’ metro locations are in Overland Park at 14383 Metcalf Avenue, Olathe, Kan. at 14150 West 119th Street and Lee’s Summit at 880 NW Blue Parkway in the Summit Fair shopping development.
“Smallcakes prides itself on giving back to causes we know are important to our valued customers,” Jeff Martin, Smallcakes owner, said. “Through engaging with our customers, we have found that many are directly affected by epilepsy and seizures. We feel The Great Purple Cupcake Project is the perfect way to tell those customers and all affected by epilepsy and seizures that we care.”
According to The Anita Kaufmann Foundation, epilepsy affects more than three million Americans and 50 million people worldwide.
