Glenn G has been playing music all of his life, starting back in the1960's. For the past 30 years, he has played in various bands and ensembles in a variety of genres (both Top 40 and Oldies.) He currently plays lead guitar for an Oldies cover band. You can find Glenn G pretty much all over the internet, and according to Glenn, his tunes are best danced in your bare feet!
How long have you been singing?
I don't really see myself as a singer per se. I am more of a musician than a vocalist. With that being said, I have been singing on and off for the past 40 years or so.
Where are you from?
I am originally from Springfield, Massachusetts.
Have you ever entered any musical contests for Indie Artists? If so, what happened?
Other than some online things from Reverbnation, I have not. Generally, I was at a disadvantage not having a band or other musicians on the recording.
What's your ultimate direction for your musical career? Are you seeking fame and fortune?
I am a realist. I guess everyone wants fame and fortune but that is highly unlikely, especially at my age! But, I would like to be able to do music as a full-time or part-time career rather than simply as a hobby to be squeezed into my spare time.
How are you mastering of your craft?
Other than practicing at home, I play piano on Sunday mornings in a small local church to keep me playing the keys while I play lead guitar in a local Oldies band.
How many songs do you have professionally mastered on the internet?
I am not sure any of them are professionally mastered except for one another artist recorded "For God So Loved" written by me and performed by Gary Cook and Kentucky Country. All of my tunes were recorded right in my living room on a small hand held digital recorder! Most people are surprised by that when they hear the songs, but that is the honest truth.
What makes you stand out amongst the other hundreds of thousands of artist’s out there?
That is a tough question. I am sure there are others out there that are like me, perhaps other artists that I have never heard before, so it would be a bit presumptuous to say that I am totally different from everyone else! I think one difference is that my songs tend to be lighthearted and fun with a lot of humor, not the typical cry in your beer traditional Country nor the I love my girl and my pick-up truck type Contemporary Country. I am just me...some like it...some don't! Anyway, how many artists record Country polka's and still live to tell about it!
What was the biggest mistake you have made trying to get yourself out there?
Many mistakes... one of which has been the constant posting of stuff on the internet (Facebook etc.) which is more or less "preaching to the choir.” Other musicians look at the posts and "like" them and then you "like" them, but beyond that, not much happens. I think it was a BIG mistake thinking I could do all of my promo myself!
What was the best piece of advice you were given?
Probably the best piece of advice has been "don't give up" which I have been tempted to do a number of times!
What do you do in your spare time?
What spare time? When I have spare time I enjoy listening to music, watching old movies, taking long walks, various outdoor activities and travel, but I don't get to do that very much.
What can we expect from you in 2014?
I took a break from doing any new material of my own in 2013. You can expect some new material from me in 2014 as I get the creative juices flowing again. Beyond that I will continue playing lead guitar in my cover band and piano in my local church while staying open to other opportunities as they present themselves.
