The Great Geauga County Fair offers lots of family fun activities

Clevelanders that didn't get their fill of fun and food at the Cuyahoga County Fair can continue their merriment at the Great Geauga County Fair in Burton, Ohio on Thursday, August 28 through Monday, September 1. It is approximately a 50 minute drive from Cleveland to Burton.

The Great Geauga County Fair Celebrating its 191st year, the Great Geauga County Fair is Ohio's oldest continuous county fair and is one of the oldest existing agricultural fairs in the United States. This year's fair features 13,000 exhibits and over 2000 animals in addition to amusement rides, free live entertainment, games, demonstrations and of course, plenty of food.

Some of the more unusual contests include a Chicken Flying Contest, a Frog Jumping Contest and a Rooster Crowing Contest.

Other activities at the Fair include a Demolition Derby (on Thursday and Saturday), a Band-O-Rama featuring area high school bands performing live (on Sunday), a Truck Pull and a Tractor Pull (both $10 admission), harness racing, a Fireman's Water Battle, a Horse Pull, a Diaper Derby and pig racing.

Additional attractions at the Fair include a hot air balloon ascension, a woodcarving demonstration, magic shows, a Junior Fair Dog Show and lots of award-winning animals and prize-winning produce. And don't forget the Apple Pie Auction on Saturday, August 30.

There will be a wide variety of entertainment (over 65 performers, acts and shows) including musical groups of different genres, square dancers, a polka band and cloggers. A special attraction is a free concert by country singer Chris Higbee on Friday evening at 8 p.m.

Hours for the Great Geauga County Fair are 9 a.m. - midnight all days. Exhibit Halls are open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. all days but Monday (Labor Day) when the exhibits close at 8 p.m.. Amusement rides are open daily from noon -midnight. Admission to the Fair is $7 per day for adults. Children 12 and under are free. Amusement rides are extra. On Friday, seniors (65+) and veterans get free admission. Remember, there is an additional charge for the Demolition Derby, Truck Pull and Tractor Pull.
