It’s pretty rare these days that I go out on what I consider a “school night.” However, when I heard that The Great Dismal Swamis, Cheap Time and the new band PEAK were playing the Norfolk Taphouse last Saturday night, I had to make an exception.

The Great Dismal Swamis, whose members consist of the guys from Big Bobby And The Nightcaps, The Electric Chairmen, The Hydeouts, and this particular evening, The Larchmont Trash, were a thrashing good time, as always.

I caught the powerful garage/rock trio Cheap Time at The Norva last summer when they opened for Social Distortion. This go-round, I was able to see them up close and personal. So much so, that my ears were happily ringing for an hour after I left the venue.

The new Norfolk band PEAK, which is comprised of former members of The Super Vacations and You’re Jovian were a pleasant surprise. I'd never heard of them, so I had no idea what to expect. What I got was jangly guitars, which I am a sucker for, and great harmonies all rolled up into a punk band.

All three bands absolutely killed it, so needless to say my being a little groggy at work the next morning was completely worth it. For more information about all the bands, check the links below.
