It's a film that already has a criterion release for March and is being compared to the classic director, Fellini. So for those who haven't had gotten a chance to watch it, it'll get a blu-ray/DVD release.
"The Great Beauty" has been making rounds on several critics best of 2013 movie lists. "The Guardian," named it the 2nd best movie, "New York Times" named it the 7th, and "Time Out London," named it number 1 on their list.
Since Tilda Swinton's "I am Love," it has been that long since an Italian movie has been nominated for Best Foreign film at the Golden Globes. It won't be until next Sunday until the Golden Globes air on NBC. It's going against other hits like "The Hunt," and the Cannes favorite, "Blue is the Warmest Color."
"The Great Beauty," won the top prize at the European Film Awards and has won several other awards. It has been getting plenty of nominations too at festivals and award shows. Last month, the Oscar's shortlist for foreign films were announced and it was on there for Italy.
A film directed by Paolo Sorrentino, about a somewhat jaded 65 year old man who finds beauty in the past and behind the exterior is making waves around the world. It's putting Italy back on the map again.
