Mac McDonald, played by Michael Joiner who takes a break from his comedic roles in exchange for this touching portrayal, is a bitter police officer who has withdrawn from his family and faith after the loss of his son.  When he is partnered with Sam Wright (Michael Higgenbottom), Mac’s lack of faith and explosive personality play in stark contrast to the part-time preacher and family man’s values.

Louis Gossett Jr., who was recognized as Best Actor in a Supporting Role in “An Officer and a Gentleman” at the 1982 Academy Awards, plays Grandpa George.  As a minister, he is Sam’s inspiration and support.  Teacher-turned-actress Joy Moore, in her first feature film role, plays the role of Mac’s wife with conviction and charisma.  Sam’s wife, played be Dawntoya Thomason, has an extensive background in entertainment, including competing in the ninth season of “American Idol.”  Other newcomers to the film industry include Rob Erickson, as Mac’s surviving son, as well as Cindy Hodge as Dr. Vines.

Up-and-coming director David G. Evans was inspired to make this film after seeing “Fireproof,” produced by Sherwood Pictures.  The script for “The Grace Card” was written and produced by Howard Klausner (“Space Cowboys”).  Other producers include John Nasraway and John R. Sanders, along with executive producers David Evans and Esther Evans.

Dick Rolfe, of the Dove Foundation, describes the movie as “well-crafted… with a powerful message of redemption and forgiveness.”

Bonus features on the DVD include deleted scenes, behind the scenes, out-takes, and a Tenth Avenue North music video entitled “Healing Begins.”
