The Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 13th; a show that’s often promoted as a big party where the stars of film and television are honored together on one night. Of course the fashions on the red carpet are also a big topic of the night, so let’s discuss some of the good and not so good fashions that were seen on some of the celebrities. You can check out the slideshow to see all the fashions mentioned in the following paragraphs.
Reds, navy, and black:
Two attractive red/maroon gowns were worn by Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lawrence. Both of their gowns were strapless with fitted bodices, thin belts, and then fuller skirts. Lawrence’s skirt flared out and created a sort of romantic, ballgown vibe. Jodie Foster, show co-host Tina Fey (hosting with Amy Poehler), and Salma Hayek sparkled in glittery column dresses in dark navy – Hayek’s almost black in shade. Kate Hudson wore a black gown with a collar and belt with gold embellishments. Hers had a large cutout under the collar and featured long sleeves as well – a rarity in high fashion.
Lovely in lace:
Intricate lace patterns, like sequins or embellished gowns, are also often a trend at awards shows. On this night, lace gowns were worn by Jennifer Lopez, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julianna Marguiles, and Amanda Seyfried. Lopez’s gown was an all-over white lace pattern on mesh, with a nude lining underneath. It could border on looking like a fancy tablecloth, but it looked stunning on her great figure. Seyfried’s gown was also white lace, but she looks much more demure and sweetly pretty in hers. Louis-Dreyfus wore a black and nude lace ballgown and Margulies wore a navy, black, and nude fitted lace dress that showed off her legs and back.
Gowns that missed the mark:
A few of the dresses that didn’t seem to fit the night were seen on Lucy Liu, Julie Bowen, and Marion Cotillard. Liu’s dress was strapless with a romantic ballgown Gone with the Wind-type skirt, but it had an overall roses and leaves pattern that made it look like bad curtains or a flowery bedspread. Bowen and Cotillard made the same mistake when they chose ill-fitting draped dresses with asymmetrical hemlines. Both of their dresses were not flattering on their fit figures.
The staples of strapless gowns, lace, sequins, and embellishments, are all usually found at big celebrity events. Now enjoy the slideshow!
