Today March 3, 2013 the Kickstarter project "The Gathering" reached an impressive $57,797, well surpassing its goal of $32,000 within the first week. "The Gathering" is a book which reunites more than 30 of the original artists of "Magic: The Gathering."
In the twenty year history of Magic: The Gathering there has never been a book devoted to the artists and their vision. The Gathering is that book! Over thirty of the original Magic artists have reunited to create new artwork, many of the pieces based on their favorite or most popular Magic cards.
Fans can get their hands on three different versions of "The Gathering." A softcover, hardcover, and limited numbered collector's edition. The full-color 80 page book measures 9.5” by 8.25” and the limited edition features a "special dust jacket and slipcase with a cover design and foil stamping that is unique to this edition" of "500 copies."
Every double page of the book features one "Magic" artist with "their thoughts and anecdotes, and showcase a painting, most created especially for "The Gathering.""
"The Gathering" boasts a foreword by the creator of "Magic: The Gathering" Richard Garfield and an afterword by the game's original art director (and designer of the famous Magic card-back), Jesper Myrfors.
