As you take route 16 south from Rapid City, South Dakota you will come to the town of Keystone. The town is only two miles from the entrance to the Mt. Rushmore National Monument. When you first pull arrive in Keystone you notice it is geared towards the tourist trade. There are pedestrian traffic warning signs. The speed limit is posted at 20 MPH and could even be lower on busy days.
On both sides of the street you will find gift shops, stores, restaurants and other places to eat. There are a lot of places to buy souvenirs from the Black Hills area. Several shops are selling Black Hills gold jewelry. There are also plenty of stores hawking Native American things. While some are quality some of the things are rather cheap. It is a fun place to leave your vehicle and walk around a while. When we visited there were not many people there on a Sunday morning.
There is RV parking if you look for side streets and the bigger lots.
