The Gates of Slumber set to release new EP 'Stormcrow' for free download

Indiana doom metal band The Gates of Slumber is set to release a new EP at the end of this month entitled “Stormcrow”. Containing five tracks of all new material, the EP will be released by Scion Audio/Visual and will be free to download.

Scion Audio/Visual is an outlet of the Scion auto manufacturing brand of Toyota and is part of the company’s efforts to market its products “a new generation of youthful buyers”, as expressed on the outlet’s website. “The Scion brand often applies new practices in all aspects of its business”, it goes on, “and pushes the creativity envelope with non-traditional advertising and marketing to engage young consumers”.

Scion A/V works with a number of musical styles, one of them being heavy metal. Among the artists within the genre that they have partnered with are Immolation, Enslaved, Witch Mountain, Saint Vitus, and Corrosion of Conformity.

Rise Above Records recording artist The Gates of Slumber is the latest band to partner up with the company to produce new music—presumably funded by Scion—in order to publish and distribute.

In addition to the “Stormcrow” EP, The Gates of Slumber and Scion have produced a music video for the opening track of the release, “Death March”. The video will be released the same day as the EP. In the meantime, a behind the scenes preview has been made available.

In addition to producing releases, Scion A/V also promotes concerts as well. Admission to these promotional concerts are free.

One might be inclined to question the effectiveness of these marketing practices, but the company has been doing this for a few years now, so it must be working.
