The Gap has a new ad campaign that features the children of musical icons such as George Harrison and Billy Joel called #BackToBlue. The series of videos feature Alexa Ray Joel and Dhani Harrison who discuss how they never forget their fathers’ advice, and who they are artistically. These videos are intimate behind-the-scenes portraits into each artist's creative process and vision, with the idea of getting back to what matters most, our truest selves.
Directed by TV/documentary director and photographer Danny Clinch, these videos go behind-the-scenes of the Gap’s newest TV commercial to inspire and remind viewers of what really matters in life.
Alexa Ray Joel discusses her classical training as well as her family's Broadway heritage, and how both influence her as a musician. She goes on to describe how growing up with creative parents meant music was more inherent than learned. For her #BacktoBlue clip, which can be seen above, Alexa chose Billy Joel’s "Just The Way You Are", but explains how her vocals make the Grammy-Award winning song all her own.
Dhani Harrison sits down to discuss his musical start at a young age and why the blues are a central genre of his sound. In his rendition of "For You Blue," a song written by his father, George Harrison, Dhani plays on a guitar with 4 strings while explaining how altering instruments can bring a new, alternative sound to an original song. Dhani’s #BackToBlue clip can be viewed here.
