The Capital City Fury defeated the visiting Central Coast Barnstormers in Saturday's late afternoon season opener. A enthusiastic home crowd turned out to cheer on the Fury as they started the 2014 Pacific Coast Football League with a victory. The unusually warm March day played a minor factor in the game play as both team experienced fatigue on the field but that did not deter the fans who turned out for the game. Expectations were high and the team was looking to continue their winning ways from last season.

The first quarter was dominated by the Fury as they controlled the ball and their defense stifled the Barnstormers. The Fury scored first but were unable to convert on the extra point when their two-point conversion failed. After a few miscues on offense by the Fury, the Barnstormers took advantage and were able to drive into the redzone but were stopped by the Fury's defense. Capital City then opened the second quarter with scoring drive but with blocked PAT lead the game 12-0. Central Coast however were able to score but with a failed PAT cut the lead to 12-6. The Fury came back to extend their lead with another touchdown but were unable to convert the PAT. Capital City was able to go into halftime with a 18-15 lead (the Barnstormers scored on a safety and touchdown).

The Fury continued to build on their lead in the third quarter with another touchdown (PAT was blocked) extending their lead to 24-15. But the Barnstormers continued to hang in the game by scoring another offensive touchdown making it a 24-22 game. Capital City continued to contain the Barnstormers offense and bottled their running game in the fourth quarter. By the final minutes of the game it was becoming a war of attrition on the field as the warm weather and hard hitting game play became increasingly apparent. The Fury scored again making it a 30-22 game. But their was no quit in the Barnstormers who scored in the waning minutes of the game to cut the lead to 30-28. Central Coast decided to go for the two-point conversion to tie the game but the Fury were able to stopped them from converting and held on for the win.

Capital City Fury's next game will be on March 22nd against the California Rhinos in Hayward. Their next home game is March 29th versus the East Bay Outlaws. Tickets for the game are just $5 for adults and youths under the age of 12 are free. Be sure to catch this season's Pacific Coast Football League action of the Capital City Fury!
