"Christmas N Da Hood" made its debut a few weeks ago at Dallas Black Academy of Arts and Letters. This amusing play written by Kendrick D. Young was just in time to add laughter to the holiday season.
Actors included Palmer Williams, Jr. from Tyler Perry's House of Pain, Tony Grant from Madea's Big Happy Family, Lady Jade from K104.5 FM, Kier Junior Spates of The Steve Harvey Show, Tracey Jones of The Real Policewomen of Dallas, soul stirring singers Angela Blair and Dana Hemphill, and a few more exceptionally talented actors.
The moral of this play showed that regardless of what side of the fence you come from, the Christmas spirit can be a common bond. The high class family members from Beverly Hills, Calif. came back to the hood to try to fit in for the holiday season, only to find it more challenging than they ever thought. Talking about explosive steam that blew the roof off!! At one point, it appeared as if Christmas had been canceled for real. It took outsiders to bring the family face to face to see the genuine meaning of Christmas and the importance of family, regardless if their lifestyles or behaviors were different.
Many of the actors are also professional singers, so they shared songs expressing each scene. Mr. Young informed the audience that they should look for the play on DVD soon in Red Box and other movie outlets, and that a new edition will be in the making. The next presentation of this hilarious holiday stage play is anticipated for Christmas 2014, as it will again be on stage in several cities for our holiday entertainment.
