According to which source you read you may have heard that either Jack Kingston or Michelle Nunn out-raised each other this last quarter in the race to replace retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss. This is a crowded race and there is a long time for any of these candidates to make a mistake. Taking it candidate by candidate, it looks like this.
Businessman and cousin of Sonny Perdue, David Perdue, has received $810 thousand over the last five months. He has also contributed and made loans to his campaign. Phil Gingrey, Paul Braun and Karen Handle each received approximately $280 thousand during this last quarter. Jack Kingston raised $800 thousand during the last quarter and has over $2 million in the bank. There are also some lesser known candidates like Derrick Grayson, Art Gardner, and Eugene Chin Yu.
On the Democratic side you have Michelle Nunn who raised a whopping $1.7 million during the quarter, her first in the race. There are also several lesser known candidates on the Democratic side. Dr. Branko Radulovacki, Steen Miles, John F. Coyne II, and Todd Robinson have all thrown their names into the hat.
It appears that thought some on the Republican side who are currently holding office have larger war chests, Ms. Nunn out-raised them in the third quarter. She is just getting started this quarter and appears to be a contender. This may be boosted by the actions of the Republican party in their government shut down. Kingston, Gingrey and Braun all voted to keep the federal government shut down. This means they were voting to withhold social security checks and military benefits from their constituents. It means they were voting to keep the furloughed government workers here in Georgia at home. This means they were voting for the wasteful $24 billion dollars that their antics costs the country.
