The full list of the 2013 Oscar nominations

This morning, January 10, 2013, the film industry watched with bated breath as Emma Stone (“The Help,” “Gangster Squad”) and Seth Macfarlane (“Ted,” “Family Guy”) announced this year’s nominations for the 85 Academy Awards. This year the Academy nominated nine films for the Best Picture category, including the expected contenders, “Lincoln,” “Les Miserables,” “Argo,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “Silver Linings Playbook.” The category also featured the spectacular films, “Beasts of Southern Wild,” “Life of Pi,” “Amour,” and “Django Unchained.”

This year’s Best Director candidates match up nicely with the Best Picture contenders, primarily because the Best Picture category featured so many nominations. The Best Director category nominated Steven Spielberg, David O. Russell, Ang Lee, Michael Haneke and Benh Zeitlin, though in a shocking turn, Tom Hooper, Kathryn Bigelow and Ben Affleck didn’t make the cut.

Later today I will post more detailed information on the voters, the voting process, and my predictions as to who will win the coveted awards, but for now take a look at the full list of contenders. The winners will be announced at the Oscars on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
