The Pearl Brewery is hosting another culinary tradition in San Antonio. The fourth annual Paella Challenge is going on this Sunday March 10 at the grounds of the Pearl Brewery. Paella is a rice-based dish that is considered by many to be Spain’s national dish.
Chef Johnny Hernandez of La Gloria will oversee the event that features top chefs from San Antonio, across the country and Mexico. This year’s celebrity chef is Jehangir Mehta who appeared on The Next Iron Chef: Redemption and local competitors include Jesse Perez of Arcade Midtown Kitchen and Jeff White of The Boiler House. Several high school teams will also be competing.
One of the goals of the Paella Challenge is to shine the spotlight on food and wine from Spain and will feature Sangria and different types of beer. It promises to be an afternoon filled with food, live entertainment and fun for the whole family.
Attendees will be able to sample the competition dishes and the day’s proceeds will benefit The Culinary Institute of America and The Educational Foundation of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
