God revealed Himself to the people of Israel, promising eternal kingship to his beloved, yet finite, servant David. Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is the son promised to David--and Jesus is the king of Israel, the King of kings, the firstborn of all Christian servant kings who are men, and women, baptized in the Cross and Resurrection.
So, why are these kings (men and women) so disobedient?
Why, when there is only One Eternal Kingship, is there four paths, but only One True Way?
"... I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his Kingdom firm. It is he who shall build a house for my name. And I will make his royal throne firm forever. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me." 2 Samuel 7:4-17
There are many reasons why the true kings of this earth, the true heirs of the Kingdom of God, men and women baptized in Christ, misbehave, rebel, and act worse than the heathen. St. Jerome said, 'Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.' For the large majority of American Catholics are well educated, or, at least, educated enough to read the Bible. And every parish has a Bible study program. The American Bishops, moreover, ever since Vatican II, have worked hard to inspire Catholic Bible study in, both, a community setting, and personally.
Yet, there is a multi-faceted assassin within our midsts. A Catholic Trojan Horse, so to speak.
First, there is good old laziness. Second, there is the progressive among us. Sadly, the progressive has usually assumed the position of the catechist, the professor (in the Catholic University), and, all too often, the pastor. This has given birth to far too many a cafeteria Catholic--paradoxically, they misuse the faithful teachings of Vatican II in a perverted 'spirit' of rebellion, where Catholics pick and choose what to believe, and what not to believe.
Many wrestle with this progressive scourge. And some become saints.
"Forever I will maintain my love for him;
my covenant with him stands firm.
I will establish his dynasty forever,
his throne as the days of the heavens.” Psalm 89:4-5, 27-30
Another reason we have progressives, cafeteria types, and unfortunate strugglers, is because idolatry has replaced true devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Theologians, like Hans Kung, have spread the virus of skepticism. Others like Raymond E. Brown have equated relativism, and feminism, and postmodernism with Catholicism. Subsequently, demons and gods like abortion, euthanasia, contraception, socialism, divorce, homosexuality, and rampant disregard for official Church teaching have become all to normal in certain parts of American Catholicism.
The Cosmic Christ has become Mother Nature, New Age Jesus, or just a gust of wind behind the sail of every progressive ideology.
"The sower sows the word. These are the ones on the path where the word is sown." Mark 4:1-20
Jesus spreads the Word of salvation in Himself. Through His Apostles, the Catholic Bishops, and through His disciples, faithful (and wrestling) Catholics--and non-Catholic Christians--He manifests Himself to a lost and suffering world through His Sacred Scriptures, His True Presence in the Eucharist, His Sacramental grace, His Spirit led Church, and in the cries of the poor, and the charitable responses of his children (servant kings).
Yet, some are too progressive to believe in such 'antiquated' words. So they become educators of the New Age of doctored spirituality and technological progress. Some follow the progressive, and become part of the cafeteria herd. Some struggle, waffling back and forth between orthodoxy and heresy. Some persist in Truth and become saints.
There are 4 types of Catholics. Which one are you? Which one do you want your children to become?
The future of America rests on your choice.
