The Foundry Gallery's Take Two exhibit welcomes it's two newest members - Gordana Gerskovic, a conceptual photographer, and Alex Tolstoy - an impressionistic water colorist. Meet the artists at the opening reception during "First Friday" gallery open house around DuPont Circle on February 7th, 6- 8pm.
Gordana, born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia came to the United States in 1997 where she has lived and worked ever since. Her photographs present the viewer with extreme close-up images that transform into astonishing abstract forms. Her subjects reflect her fascination with nature and evoke images of natural forms, organic objects and surfaces.
Alex, a former research scientist and mathematician, decided to try the other side of her brain, and watercolor has now taken hold there. She believes that watercolor is a quirky medium, with a mind of it's own. Drawing on her half-Russian heritage, her paintings are introspective and nearly monochromatic. Tolstoy's images are blurry and indistinct that bring more "feelings" about a place rather than a "representation."
Do not miss this unique exhibit that brings an excellent perspective on familiar subject matter and medium - the exhibition runs from February 5th through March 2nd.
