Hundreds of DC area residents showed up for the welcome reception at The foundry Gallery on August 6 for the Dupont Circle Scenes Guest Artist Show. Seven local artists were selected for the show in a variety of media in digital collage to oil. These works were selected by Dwight Young from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The winners were as follows:
First Prize
Michelle C. Roberts
"Bikes, Dupont Metro" Photography, 10" x 20"
Michelle C. Roberts, native of Alaska, traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. While growing up and taking pictures of her travels, she discovered that photography is a means to capture a fleeting moment and preserve it for a lifetime as well as provide a creative outlet. After graduating from Towson University with a B.S. in Visual Communications with an emphasis on photography, she worked at Chrome Photographics, a premier photography lab. She later became the studio manager of one of the area's top architectural photographers. Currently, she is a freelance photographer whose work can be viewed in numerous periodicals, annual reports, websites. CD's, businesses, and private collections. In 2008 her work was shown at the Prince George's Arts Council. Michelle lives and has her studio in Hyattsville, MD, where she prints all her work. To learn more, please visit www.mcr-photo.com.

Elizabeth Perry Kapsch
"Alley Garden" Oil, 11" x 14"
Elizabeth Perry Kapsch, native of Poolesville, MD lives on her family's farm which serves as inspiration for her painting. She holds a BA from Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Economics. When not painting, she has been a stock broker, floral designer, preservationist/conservationist and editor/publisher. Another strong influence on her work has been a lifetime of travel including five years in Japan as a child where she first studied watercolor. She turned to oil painting in 2006 under the tutelage of Howard Cohen and Walter Bartman. Recent workshops have been with Lee Boynton and Barbara Nuss. Ruth Ann Greenberg-Becker
"Dupont Morning" Acrylic, 12" x 16"
Ruth Ann Greenberg-Becker is a Bethesda artist specializing in cityscapes in oils, acrylics and watercolors. She will be featured in an article this Fall, 2010, in American Artist magazine's special "Studios" issue. Ruth has a BA from the Johns Hopkins University in Art History, 1979, and also completed foundation studies in painting and drawing at the Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1975, 1976, and 1977. She studied painting at The Corcoran in the 1980's as well and served as vice-president of the Washington Watercolor Association in the 90's. She has won numerous awards including a Windsor and Newton award for watercolor at a show at the Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, MD.
