The Foundry Gallery invites you to attend an opening reception for a modern-day "Impressionist," Katherine Blakeslee and her solo collection of watercolor paintings on Friday, September 6th from 6-8pm.
Explore the mysterious ways the natural world reveals itself. Like a Monet's examination of dappled light, Blakeslee's edges appear, disappear and reappear, just as beginnings, endings and transformations do in our lives. Blakeslee's images span from home to across the world - going to places where geographical, political and natural edges are often undefined.
Blakeslee uses the medium of watercolor to reflect the impermeability of light and meaning in the imagery which results from the interaction of flowing water, color and the artist, with no one solely in charge. The tension, the challenge, the beauty of the spontaneous as well as the excitement of serendipity all come together for Blakeslee's artwork as well as in her life.
The painter began her self-taught adventure into exploring watercolor over a decade ago, both inspired by and in response to rediscovering a painting she had done as a child that was saved by her Father.
Her watercolors are on exhibition through September 29.
