The Foundry Gallery’s November solo exhibition entitled “Journeys” features new work by Amy Barker-Wilson, a local abstract painter and member of the gallery. The exhibit runs from Wed November 2, 2011, through Sunday November 27, 2011. The opening reception is Friday, November 4, 2011, 6 to 8pm.
Amy's works provide a sense of mystery and possibility and she invites the viewer to extend his or her own perceptual imagining along the way. Her paintings build from her experiences on journeys both in Turkey and Andalusian Spain, as well as an appreciation of traditional patterns and their architectural dynamics. They are playful, often studied and unplanned mixtures, incorporating geometric traditions and calligraphic elements among spontaneously arising mixed media of many colors and materials. They evoke a feeling of ancient beauty and lively activity using highly saturated colors often washed out by time and sun, and a silence that pervades beyond the forms - fun, wild, and meditatively calm at the same time.
Amy will be participating in a special program sponsored by AIGA Design Inc., consisting of slides and presentations by 20 artists discussing their “Inspirations” to be held at the Foundry Gallery on November 17th from 7:30 to 11pm.
In addition, Amy will be conducting her own artist’s talk and workshop on Saturday November 19, from 2 to 4pm.
The Foundry Gallery is located at 1314 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 20036. (202-463-0203).
