"The Following" aired its fourth episode, "Mad Love," Monday, Feb. 11, and when we recently talked to Shawn Ashmore about the series, we not only asked him about Mike Weston's relationship with Kevin Bacon's Ryan Hardy (and a possible connection with James Purefoy's Joe Carroll), but we also asked about something that happened in "Mad Love," so if you haven't seen the episode, stop reading now.
In the latest episode of "The Following," Hardy learned that one of Joe's followers, Maggie (Virginia Kull) had his sister Jenny and went off on his own. Weston wouldn't let him go by himself and joined him even as Hardy told him he could be fired over it. "Actually, I think I'm traumatized from the loss of a fellow agent," Weston replied. "I'm not thinking clearly. Probably get off with a warning." And then when it was over, Weston said he'd probably get suspended. So what will happen to Weston?
"I wouldn’t say there's lasting consequences," Ashmore told us about the aftermath of "Mad Love." "The situation is so extreme that I think at a certain point, the FBI realizes that rules are going to have to be bent and potentially broken to solve the case, and so there's no real lasting consequence to that." What else would you expect when it comes to dealing with Joe Carroll and his cult of followers?
"The Following" airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on FOX. What do you think of the series so far?
