Ryan: “Oh wow this is interesting, so you are sleeping with Emma to or just Jacob or both?”
Paul: “You’ve got no idea what’s going on.”
Ryan: “Yeah you’re right, I don’t because in my head I’ve got this whole three way scenario going on here. Wait, wait, wait…you like Jacob, but Jacob likes Emma, and Emma just wants to control you both, but that can’t be it, can it?”

Ryan is surprisingly sarcastic and hilarious in this episode. It’s surprising because it seems a little out of character for him, and also there is the fact that he is being held hostage. He manages to learn quite a bit about Paul, Jacob and Emma’s relationship. Even though the viewers have been privy to their lives, Ryan and the FBI don’t know anything about what has been going on in the house. The writers handled the hostage situation well, and hopefully they will show more of Ryan being a little sarcastic. Clearly he is doing this to annoy Paul, Emma, and Jacob, but it adds a level of humor to the show that it usually doesn’t have. Did you love Ryan during this episode?
This episode is the first time that the viewers delve into another member of the FBI’s past. Parker tries to connect with Emma about parent troubles. As it turns out, Parker grew up in a cult, and she escaped from it. Her parents are still there. It is fantastic to learn more about her. The writers are letting viewers get close to her and feel sympathy for her. It’s not hard to deduce that her past is what got Parker into her career. Now is it just me or did it feel like Parker was warning her parents, in a way, that she was about to take down the cult?
Here are quick thoughts on elsewhere in the episode. Claire’s kidnapper’s name is Charlie, and he is her follower. This is an interesting glimpse into how Joe’s followers work. His flashbacks really aren’t that exciting. What he does is give Claire hints about the operation. The big twist of the episode is that Joe’s followers are everywhere. They are in local PD. They are tactically trained. They are bigger and badder than anyone thought. This is an interesting twist and it makes things more complicated. What needs to happen in the next episode or so is that the writers need to give the viewers some answers. Now clearly the FBI doesn’t have to figure things out, but there needs to be a flashback or conversation between some of Joe’s followers that allows viewers to begin to understand more of just how big the followers network is. What are your theories?
