Summary: The team learns of Joe Carroll’s true intentions from a new follower. Ryan tries to turn Emma, Jacob, and Paul against one another and Emma makes a startling decision.
The show starts off what where last episode ended: Paul pointing a gun at Ryan. He takes his gun and they tell Joey to go to his room. Jacob and Emma come in. Jacob is freaking out because he knows that cops are coming. Ryan tells them that everyone knows they are here. He tells them that this is the enf for them.
Claire arrive at some building with the mysterious man. He brings her to a room filled with cameras, weapons and other things.
Mike and the local cops meet up. He tells them guard the perimeters so no one can leave.
Jacob has a hard time tying Ryan but he hesitates. Ryan says that he if comes to tie him up he will crack his neck and his spine. Ryan’s phone starts to ring.
Claire starts pacing as the guy works on the computer. She sees Joe’s book. She knows that he knows Joe. 2010. Man, Charlie, is meting with Joe. He tells him he can hack the computer so Joe can communicate with them without the jail knowing. He says he was discharged. He says he killed 9 people, including 4 people he just wanted dead. Present day. Claire is looking at his computers. She finds a folder that’s filled with pictures of her. He asks her to trust him. He says that he’s her follower.
Emma comes down from checking on Joey. She is mad that he’s not tied up. They hear the sirens and they know that the police have surrounded the place. She says that they will kill him too. He says he doesn’t care. She electrocutes him and says that it’s Joe’s idea. She tells Jacob to tie him up before leaving.
Debra meets with Mike and the local police to catch up. They try hacking the computer inside, but it’s encrypted. Jacob meets with Emma and she says that she sent Roderick a message asking for help.
Joe meets with Olivia again. She tells him that Ryan is at the farm house and that Claire is missing. He tells her that her message to the press started the working of getting Claire kidnapped.
Emma tells Ryan to call off the cops. He says she needs leverage. She brings in Megan and shocks her and tells Ryan to make the call.
Mike tells Debra that Claire is missing. She believes that Olivia knows something. Mike gets a call from Ryan. Debra hears Emma and she tries to talk to her. She compliments her art. She says that all the faces of Poe’s characters all have her mother’s face. She ends the call before leaving. Ryan sees that Jacob is with Emma. He sees a nearby knife.
Mike asks about what Debra was doing. She says she was trying to stall. Mike asks if was true. She says yes. She says she thinks she’s traumatized. She says she wanted to try and bring her grief to the surface. 2004. Debra meets with a man named Dale and she asks for her family. He says they probably don’t want to see her after what she did. 1989. She is a young girl and she goes to Dale’s room. He starts to touch her and she leaves crying to her mother. 2004. She walks to her parents. Present day.
Charlie tells Claire that they’ve been delayed. He says he can’t tell her after she’s reunited with her son. She asks what he meant about him being her follower. He shows her all his notebooks and his notes. He says he’s been following her for 2 years and he then shows her videos. He says that Joe was keeping tabs on her and he says that Joe hopes she will survive it. There is a video of her sleeping, up close. He says that Emma didn’t know about him. He says that everyone plays their own part and she is his.
Emma says she got an email and that he will get back to her. He says to be ready.
Paul and Emma talk. Ryan figures out that they are all together.
Mike gets another call from Emma. She says that she does miss her mother. Debra knows that’s not why Emma called her. She says that no one controls her. Debra says that Joe controls her. Emma says that she chose to follow Joe. 2004. Debra is talking with her parents. Her father says he could help her get back. She says she just wanted to see them. Present day. She says she knows that Emma’s stalling.
Jacob comes down from checking on Joey. Ryan asks him about the 3-way relationship and Jacob gets upset. He says that no one believes he can kill Megan and he starts to choke her out. While Paul calms him, Ryan grabs the knife from the table.
Mike is able to unscramble an email. He thinks they might be able to find Claire with it. SWAT arrives.
Charlie calls Roderick. He asks what he has to do with Claire. She grabs the keys from his pocket and runs. He goes after her and he gets her.
SWAT gets into position. The cell phone rings. Emma leaves to answer it. She comes back in. She says that everything is good. Paul is freaking out and Emma tells him to have a little faith. Ryan taunts him and he goes and punches Ryan.
Emma wakes Joey and brings him downstairs. Charlie keeps looking at Claire and she realizes that he likes her. She knows that Roderick is not the person’s real name. She asks what Joe’s plans are and why he listens to him. He says he’s teaching him to feel his life. 2011. Charlie tells Joe about Claire and what she’s been doing. Joe sees that Charlie has fallen for Claire. Present day. He kisses her but she pushes him away. He says that it’s impure and starts kitting his head against the wall.
Paul is upset that Emma’s been gone long. He sends Jacob up to get her. Ryan pulls out the knife and starts cutting the ties. Jacob comes down sys that Emma is gone with Joey. Ryan breaks free and stabs Paul and pushes Jacob aside. Ryan helps Megan escape. Ryan calls Mike and tells him that Emma and Joey are on their way towards them. A man approaches two snipers. A man comes behind them and shoots the two Snipers.
Emma and Joey are going through the woods. Mike and cop caught Emma and Joey. The woman cop shoots Mike and she says she’s with Roderick. Emma and Joey follow her.
Charlie says that he’s going take her to see Joey. Charlie drops a smoke grenade so that he can escape, but they got Claire.
SWAT captain meets with Debra and gives her an update.
Jacob tries to help Paul when the SWAT start shooting at the house. They come in and Jacob says they surrender. Two other SWAT guys shoot them.
Ryan finds Mike. Ryan finds the two dead SWAT shooters.
The girl cop tells Emma and Joey to get in the car. He shoots the cop but Emma and Joey still get away.
Jacob knocks out a guy in a car on the highway and him and Paul steal the truck.
Mike and Debra talk with Ryan. She says that Carroll’s followers stole SWAT outfits to help everyone escape. Ryan gets frustrated and walks away.
2004. Her mother says that she destroyed them when Debra ran off in the middle of the night. She says she doesn’t want their forgiveness. She says came to forgive them. Dale approaches them. She gets up and leaves. 1989. Her mother tries to get her to go back saying that she has to. Dale takes her in. Present day.
Olivia tells Joe that his followers and his son got away. Joe says that it’s time for the next part of the story. She gives a press conference. Says she filing a report against the FBI. Claire sees this as Ryan arrives at her house. She pushes him away before she lets him hug her.
Joe is smiling smugly in his cell. Debra in her office pulls out a necklace with the symbol of her parents’ cult. Emma gets a call from Jacob. He asks why she left him and Paul and Emma hangs up the phone. Paul thanks Jacob for not leaving him.

-Debra’s parents were from a cult which is why she is such an expert in them.

-Does Emma really miss her mother? Will Debra get to Emma?
-How will Jacob and Paul (if he survives) react once they see Emma again.
