Show opens with Jordy going inside the young woman’s apartment. He follows her to a room. He takes his kit and tells her he’s been planning this for a logn time.
Troy announces an amber alert for Joey and his babysitter Denise are missing. Ryan goes to see Claire and says that Denise was planted there to watch them. Mike says that she drugged the guards and carried him out of the room.
Denise and the two guys arrive at a house with Joey and he doesn’t know that he’s been kidnapped. Billy doesn’t like kids and Will telsl him that he needs to pull it together.
Mike says Denise is not her real name and the gay neighbors are not their real names either. Their real names are Emma, Jacob, and Paul. Ryan meets with Debra, who thinks Ryan should be off the case. She says she can’t because Joe cast him as the protagonist of his story. Ryan asks for a gun. She doesn’t want to. She asks about the letter. He says that Claire received a personal letter that was about his relationship with her. Troy comes in saying there is more bodies.
At the crime scene (dorm from the beginning), Jordy killed three girls, but some got away. Troy suggests having Claire meet with Joe to find out where Joey is.
Claire meets with Joe. Ryan remembers going to Claire’s during Joe’s trial in 2004. She tells him she doesn’t want to go to court anymore. Present day. Claire meets with Joe. She asks about Joey. Joe reminisces about a vacation they had, but she keeps the focus on Joey. He asks her bout the questions in the letter. She admits the affair with Ryan. Says it happened after the divorce. Joe asks about the sex, in a way to taunt Ryan, and she said it was good. He asks if she loved Ryan. She says she doesn’t know because she think about love after he betrayed her. She starts slapping him, demanding to know where Joey is and he starts to choke her saying that he will always love her before the guards separate them.
Ryan comforts Claire. She asks about Joey, he says nothing new.
Emma takes Joey to his room, which looks like his room at home. She gest frustrated because he keeps asking to call his mom. He asks about his dad and why he’s bad. Emma says that he’s not bad and that he’s misunderstood.
2003. Emma is at a book signing and she gets infatuated with him. He signs her book. He starts flirting with her. She thinks that the character at the end of is book died. Her mom comes and interrupts her conversation with Joe.
Mike says that Paul, Jacob, and Emma all visited Joe in jail. They discovered that Emma lives in Petersburg VA.
Mike/Ryan/Troy go to her house. Ryan breaks into the house and discovers a shrine to Edgar Allan Poe. In the bedroom, he finds a bunch of Edgar Allan Poe masks and his book. He gets attacked by someone in an Edgar Allan Poe masks. He threatens Ryan saying he will die, but not today before knocking him out.
Debra admits that it is a cult. The house is where they planned everything out. She admits that cults are her specialty.
Paul cracks into the bureau. Emma tells Paul to go watch the kid. She thinks that Paul is jealous of her relationship with Jacob. 2003. Emma asks Joe if he likes her haircut. He says that she needs to make new friends. She agrees to meet with Jacob. Present day. Jacob and Emma start to make out.
Troy says there are 8-9 different hand wittings and 4 prints. Ryan finds an article about Claire divorcing Joe. 2005. Ryan is at Claire’s talking about her divorce and she tells Ryan to kiss her and he does.
Paul tells Jacob they found Emma’s house. He says Rick was there but Jordy wasn’t. He tells Paul to stop challenging Emma. 2006. Jacob meeting her mom and her mom flirts with Jacob. She continues to put Emma down before Emma stabs her in the back.
Ryan goes to the basement and sees all the name of all the women in Poe’s life. There is a picture of Sarah above 'Nevermore'. Mike finds a picture of Emma’s mom. He pulls the board and her body falls out of the walls. Ryan says this is like Poe’s ‘Black Cat’. Ryan finds a picture of Claire and they go to make sure she’s safe.
Ryan tells her that they have no new news. Claire goes upstairs with one of the cops to do a search. She steps into her room and the cop remains close by. They learn that the woman is Emma’s mother. Debra can’t understand how Jordy disappears. The cop goes to look at something when Jordy comes from behind him and takes him out. He goes to Claire’s room and shuts the door before going after her.
Ryan shows Debra the layout of Sarah’s apartment and how they took her, then h realizes it’s Claire’s house not Sarah’s. He goes to the room and Jordy takes a shot at him. Ryan enters the room. Before shutting the door, Troy slips a gun in his pants. Jordy says he has to kill her and Ryan has to watch. He says if he doesn’t then Ryan has to kill him. Ryan suggests calling Joe. Jordy gets distracted and Ryan shoots him.
Detective wants to know how he got in and they say that Emma gave him the key to the house. Debra checks in on Ryan and Claire before speaking with Ryan. She says Jordy is in surgery. Ryan wants to see Joe.
Debra lets him but with a team of guards. Ryan tells him that Claire almost died. He says that he was hoping that Ryan would save her. He says that Jordy is not the worst of them and that Ryan needs to be at his best. He says he has a lot of surprises in store for him. Ryan says that he didn’t kill Jordy, which was not a part of Joe’s plan.
Ryan meets with Claire. She asks him to stay with her. He agrees to stay.
Paul watches Jacob and Emma having sex and looks upset.
Debra gives Joe a book of story tales.
Ryan watches Claire sleep.
It’s the next day. A person dressed as Edgar Allan Poe pours gasoline on a man and lights him on fire.
What to take away
-Jordy is on the warpath and is undoubtedly going to be using his shield to get access to the victim’s place
-How strong is Emma’s relationship with Joe? How committed is she to him?
-Emma is slowly seeming to be more dangerous then she appears having killed her mom and being manipulative over Jacob and Paul
-Who is Rick and what is his purpose in the group?
-What does Joe want with that book of tales? Is there something in the book? Is it possible that Debra is part of the cult and she is helping him out? She looked very attached to the idea of Joe and Poe when they were at Emma's house.
-Why is it that Paul mistrusts Emma so much?
