Guest Starring: Maggie Grace (Taken 2, Breaking Dawn Pt 2)
Virginia jail. Joe Carroll, dressed as a guard, goes to his locker before leaving. Two other guards go to check on inmates. Find five dead guards. Joe drives away as the jail sets off alarm.
Brooklyn NY. Ryan is woken by his phone. He turns on news and sees that a man has escaped jail. He gets a call from Frank and he asks him to come back to the department to help find the Jim.
Norfolk, VA. FBI pull up to a woman’s, Sarah (Grace), house. He tells her that Jim escaped. Flashback to 2004. Sarah is testifying against Jim in court. Present day. Her neighbor, Will, comes home and comforts her.
Ryan arrives at the jail Jim escaped. He meets Jennifer and Troy and they walk him through the jail. He asks about Sarah.
Ryan walks through the crime scene and his cell. He found a book with a note to Ryan, threatening to kill again. He asks about Claire Matthews, Joe’s ex-wife.
At Claire’s house. She refuses to talk to police. Only Ryan. Flash 2002. Joe comes in and she tells him she’s pregnant. Present. Her son, Joey, comes in and he knows something bad is happening.
A woman comes into FBI headquarters wanting to talk about Joe. The woman brushes her off. Ryan walks by and over to the briefing. Mike says that Joe started because his book failed. Ryan says Joe is a romantic writer. Says that he believed in the insanity of art. It had to be felt. He says Joe cut out victim’s eyes because of Poe’s works because they relate to a person’s identity.
Ryan walks by the woman and the woman says that they are his groupies. He was representing himself as a lawyer so he was allowed to legal books and the internet.
The woman receives a text and stands up and walks to the middle of the room. She pulls out a knife and takes off her dress. The FBI circle her. He tries to talk her off the ledge. She goes and stabs herself in the eye.
Mike notices that ‘The Raven’ is written all over her body. Her last words were Poe’s last words. Jennifer comes over with her prints. Mike thinks Joe told her to do it. Jennifer gets a call from Sarah and gives phone to Ryan. He promises her safety. Jennifer says that Claire will only speak to him.
Sarah sees the news talking about Joe. She remembers seeing him teach about Poe in 2003. He teaches that Poe thinks that the death of beautiful woman is art.
Mike is having a hard time cracking the virus from the jail computer. They find out who helped Joe, a prison guard named Jordan.
They go to his house. The house is clear. They investigate the house. Mike plys a video of the man playing with his dog. Scott discovers a gory scene in the garage. He says that Joe was teaching Jordan how to be a serial killer.
Ryan finds Joe’s novel. He says Joe seduced Jordan to follow him. Ryan says that Joe is charismatic and could inspire people. Jennifer tells Ryan to talk to Claire.
Sarah is watching news and she is talking about the woman who killed herself at FBI headquarters. Sarah goes to bed to get way from it. She gets ready for bed and looks at her stab wounds. Flash to 2003. She comes home with her roommate. Her roommate just stops talking and she suspects something is wrong. She comes out with Joe and she is dead.
Ryan goes to visit Claire. Flash to 2003. Ryan meetings Claire for the 1st time. They are talking about Joe. She mentions for him to look into Edgar Allan Poe and to talk to her husband. They flirt. Present day. She gives him a letter from Joe. She says that Joe doesn’t want freedom, he wants to keep going. Ryan apologizes for not calling. He says that he didn’t call because he felt she deserved more. She thinks that Sarah’s ability to move on would upset Joe because she got away.
Ryan goes to Sarah’s. They can’t find her guards. He bursts into her bedroom and sees one dead guard and Sarah’s missing. He finds an opening in her closet. He goes in it and follows the blood trail to her neighbor’s house. When they get to the garage they find the 2nd guard. Behind him is a message that reads ‘NEVERMORE’ in blood.
Frank says that Will’s car left about an hour before. They had kidnapped Sarah to help Joe. He thinks that they moved in next to Sarah to watch her for him. Ryan starts freaking out and he remembers when he first saw Sarah in 2003. It was right before she got home. He hears her scream and Joe pops up. Sarah is stabbed on the floor. He takes the knife from her and stabs Ryan. He goes to finish Sarah before Ryan shoots him.
Ryan goes back into Will’s apartment and sees a picture of him and his boyfriend in front of a bed and breakfast with ‘lighthouse’ in the name. Ryan gets the address, takes a car without anyone’s notice, and goes there.
When he gets there, he sees that it’s an abandoned building. He goes into it. He calls out loud for Joe. Sarah screams, Ryan runs to the scream, but his heart is giving him problems. He goes into a room with a computer. Joe shows up and hits him with a board and continues to beat on him. Joe shows Ryan that he had a recording of Sarah screaming. Joe pulls on a rope and reveals Sarah’s dead body. Ryan starts to choke Joe out and Joe says he surrenders. Mike/Troy/Jennifer show up and Troy has to pull Ryan off him.
Ryan said that he made a lot mistakes but he felt proud that he saved Sarah. Jennifer asks how he knew to come here. He mentions how he was inspired by Poe’s unfinished work. ‘The Lighthouse’, similar to how Sarah was his unfinished work.
Mike says he has multiple resources dedicated to Joe. Jennifer says Joe will only talk to Ryan. Ryan goes to see him. Ryan asks what his plan is. Joe says it’s going to be a collaboration for his new book. Joe mentions that how there are a lot of serial killers around. Jordy pops in on a girl. He says he considers Ryan his friend even though Ryan slept with Claire. He asks about the letter. He says she is the love interest of the story. Claire goes to check in on Joey and he’s missing. He says that Ryan is going to be his protagonist and the hero in his story. He says he killed Sarah for Ryan. Flash to the babysitter kidnapping Joey and bringing him to Will.
