The mountain may not have come to Muhammad, but for nine days starting on February 6, the flavors of Navarra, Spain will be coming to New York and Washington.
During that period, local restaurants here and in DC will fine-tune their menus to reflect the dishes of the Kingdom of Navarra, a region of Spain that borders the Basque country, La Rioja, Aragon, and the Pyrenees. The list of participating restaurants, which can be found here, will be featuring such local delicacies as glazed pork belly and potato purée, hake fillet on a base of creamed leeks and foie, and griddled prawns. The wines of the region will also be celebrated.
On February 9, a grand tasting of the cuisine and wines of Navarra will be held at the Hotel “W” in Union Square between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. Chefs of the region will be on hand along with artisan provisioners and wine experts to take your palate on a "guided tour."
For information on tickets, include price, and other details, click here. Ordinarily, I'd provide this information myself, but the press kit was inordinately vague. One detail it did provide was that Hemingway loved piquillo peppers washed down with a good bottle of Rosado. I have my doubts that he will be in attendance.
