Big news hit Noise Pop 20 with the addition of The Flaming Lips, Bob Mould, Sleigh Bells and Mac McCaughan of Superchunk joining the festivities.
The announcement was made Jan, 11 as the event, showcasing independent music, art and film, takes hold of San Francisco from Feb. 21-26.
The Flaming Lips will kick things off opening day playing an intimate gig at Bimbo’s 356 Club Tuesday, Feb 21 with special guest Release The Sunbird as openers. The Lips are reaching into the vault performing spacey rocker The Soft Bulletin in its entirety.
Bob Mould hits Bottom of the Hill Feb. 24 for the 20-year anniversary of Sugar's classic Copper Blue also performed in its entirety. Performing with Mould will be Jon Wurster (Superchunk, The Mountain Goats), and Jason Narducy (Robert Pollard, Verbow).
So half of Superchunk will be in town with Mac McCaughan working his solo magic and Jon Wurster backing Bob Mould, but no Superchunk? So close. Sad face.
In honor of NP’s 20th anniversary, SF pop punkers Overwhelming Colorfast will reunite playing a set at Bottom of the Hill with Slouching Stars (formerly Carlos) and Peppercorn. Saturday, Feb. 25 . This will be the first time the original lineup has performed together in 18 years.
Other headlining artists include Built to Spill, Archers of Loaf, Cursive, Imperial Teen, Die Antwoord, Budos Band and Grimes.
Tickets for all of the above shows go on sale Sunday, Jan. 15 at 10:00 a.m. PST.
