The First Trailer and Poster for "Battleship"

The first trailer and poster for next summer's blockbuster film, Battleship, has arrived online Albany! With the Transformers trilogy seemingly coming to an end earlier this month, it would certainly appear that this film is poised to become the next "game or toy" turned film franchise. Watch the trailer and judge for yourself.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

" Peter Berg (Hancock, The Rundown) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane."

After watching the trailer, the idea seems certainly ambitious but I was left with a feeling of "haven't I seen this before" In fact, haven't we all seen this earlier this year in Battle: Los Angeles? The only obvious difference between the two films is that Battleship is based in the water. Other than that, the films appear to be almost identical with Battleship also having slight elements of films like Armageddon. While the trailer shows off a look at the aliens' spaceship as well as the beautiful Brooklyn Decker, it'll be interesting to see how audiences react to a film that seems to have been done before.

Battleship, starring Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, the upcoming John Carter), Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Brooklyn Decker (Just Go With It), Rihanna and more, hits Albany theaters on May 18th, 2012.
