Although you may have to get out the umbrellas and rain gear, the first official weekend of Mardi Gras 2012 is here. Beginning tonight February 10th the Krewe of Eve kicks things off at 6 pm in Mandeville. On the Southshore the Krewe of Oshun hits the streets of New Orleans at 6 pm, Atlas in Metairie at 7 pm and Cleopatra gets things rolling on the Westbank at 6 pm.
Family Gras kicks off tonight also in Metairie with The Vettes, Electric Touch and Hot Chelle Rae taking the stage. There will also be food and beverages for sale at Flambeau Court. Hopefully the weather will clear up so that everyone can enjoy the festivities.
Tomorrow February 11th parades will be starting off around 11 am with The Krewe of Choctaw and Adonis on the Westbank. At 2 pm the Krewe of Ponchartrain will roll Uptown and the Krewe of Nemesis will be in Chalmette. At 6 pm Olympia will be rolling in Covington, Sparta will be Uptown followed by Pygmalion and the Krewe of Caesar, Metairie's largest will hit the streets.
Once again Family Gras will be happening with live entertainment on Saturday with The Creole Stringbeans, Amanda Shaw, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and others. Along with Flambeau Court selling food and beverages they will have the Jester Kid's Tent with activities and characters for the little ones to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday February 12th parades will begin rolling at noon with Alla on the Westbank and the Krewe of Carrollton Uptown followed by the Krewe of King Arthur and Merlin. Dionysus will roll in Slidell at 1 pm, while in Metairie the Krewes of Rhea and Thor will begin at 2 pm. In Madisonville the Krewe of Tchefuncte boat parade will begin at 2 pm and last but not least the Krewe of Barkus will hit the French Quarter at 2 pm.
Sunday will also be the last day of Family Gras in Metairie. Bring your little ones out to see the Doodlebops Live and enjoy the other live acts such as Parachute, The farm and Cowboy Mouth.
So get your family together and grab your jackets and hats, chairs and snacks and enjoy the weekend!
