There are many ways to enjoy adventures in Phuket, Thailand, but you will find so much more. After our white water rafting and elephant safari in the jungle, we experienced the "real" Thailand, the essence of Thai-ness.

They call it "Living the Thai culture. The Sukko Cultural Spa and Wellness Center, is the first cultural spa in the world. From the moment you arrive at the entrance, you are surrounded by the beauty of nature while within an environment of true Thai culture. Soon you will see the Sukko Cultural Spa is not like any other spa!

We were greeted by ladies dressed in ancient outfits of the Sukhothai who led us down the long open- air hallway. All visitors are invited to beat the gong with a mallet, to announce their presence. When we finally arrived at the entrance, the wall around the outside doorway was decorated with gold leaf; each person signed their name on the wall and entered the spa.

With such a serenely beautiful atmosphere, we were anxious to experience one of their treatments. I have tried Thai massages here at the Las Vegas Marriott Resort and at the Thousand Waves Spa, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but it is different in Thailand.

We wear our own loose clothing in the United States while the therapist moves our body into yoga-style positions, an effortless way of relaxing. At the Sukko, the client is able to choose either being naked or wearing a special robe. They add several Asian techniques to relax your body and soul. My Sunny Rejuvenation massage was a perfect blend of acupressure, energy rebalancing, aromatherapy, and yoga-style movements.

First a 30 minute dip in the Jacuzzi prepared me for the treatment. The 30 aloe cooler after sun body wrap was warm and comfortable as it attempted to exfoliate the body and clear out toxins. Next the therapist began the Aromatherapy body massage, her hands gliding across my body with almond oil then other essential oils. These oils are meant to dissolve into the skin to treat cellulite and refresh the body. The treatment continued with a floral water body spray with the finale of Thai herbal tea and snack.

Awarded outstanding performance day spa from Tourism Authority of Thailand, 2008, clients are invited to learn about Thai culture by attending classes in Thai cooking, fruit carving, Muay Thai Chiya traditional Southern Thai- style of boxing, or any of their activities. The Sukko Cultural Spa & Wellness Center is located in Amphur Muang, Phuket, Thailand.
