People across the country came to Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, Aug 1st, not because of the fast food chain chicken sandwiches, but because of its CEO's vocal support of traditional marriage.Chick-fil-A was founded by a Christian family that is committed to operating its company on biblical principles.
More than 630,000 supporters signed up to celebrate Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on facebook. Mike Huckabee, Former Arkansas Govenor, created the event to boycott gay marriage activists after Cathy said he was guilty as charged for not supporting gay marriage. Huckabee encourage people to support a business that operates on Christian principles by eating at Chick-fil-A on Appreciation Day.
The Chick-fil-A at Regancy had a line so long on Wednesday afternoon that 15-20 people were waiting outside to get in. Cars were also backed up all the way to Atlantic Boulevard. The Chick-fil-A restaurants on Roosevelt and Tinseltown also had a long line of people waiting outside.
Jacksonville City Councilman Don Redman, a vegetarian, was at the Tinseltown restaurant. Redman said he took part in the event because he felt the critccism of Chick-fil-A was wrong and wanted to express that publicly.
Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on the First Coast was a huge success. Every Chick- fil- A had a crowd of people showing their support. The event was not created by Chick-fil-A, but it was created by the fans.
