The First Coast Heart Walk

The First Coast Heart Walk will be on Saturday, Sept 22nd at 9 a.m. The walk will be at the Metropolian Park. The money raised at the walk will fund critical research, education and community programs to help fight heart disease.

The Heart Walk is sponsored by the American Heart Association which is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent cardiovascular diseases. These diseases claim more than a million American lives each year. Heart disease also kills more men and women than all forms of cancer combined.

The Heart Walk is a free event. The walk will be three miles and one mile for all survivors of heart disease. There will be special recognition for survivors at the event. Survivors will be given red ball caps to wear during the walk to show their victory over heart disease.

There will be a few photo booths at the event. Participants can get photo with their furry friends and enter the top dog contest. The winner will receive a gift basket for dogs. Participants can also get picture in their favorite sports gear.

There are ways people can reduce their chance of heart disease. Research shows the benefits of physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day can reduce the risk of heart disease, improve blood pressure and lower the risk of obesity.
