The Fourth of July is over, but the energy and excitement are still hovering in the air, waiting for more sparks to fly. Flames are definitely in the forecast, with some hot bands coming to Dallas during the next week or so.
Starting off this heat wave will be Queen, featuring Adam Lambert of American Idol as frontman. Joining Adam on stage at the AAC on July 10 will be Brian May and Roger Taylor, original members of Queen. Rolling Stone called opening night of this tour “a spectacle of the grandest order”. There are plenty of tickets in all price ranges still available for this show.
The following Sunday, July 13, I expect no less of a “grand spectacle” when KISS and Def Leppard perform at the Gexa Energy Pavilion. This tour marks the 40th anniversary of KISS, which gives you reason to believe that this show will be even more spectacular than the last time that KISS performed at Gexa. Get ready for a hot show! (in more ways than one, considering the climbing temperatures and the pyro that is a major feature of every KISS concert)
Tuesday night, July 15, the awesome music continues when Tesla comes to the House of Blues. The band is on tour in support of their recently released album "Simplicity".
Then on Saturday, July 16, expect a killer show at Gexa Energy Pavilion with Motley Crue on their final tour, joined by none other than Alice Cooper. I know, bands usually promote "last tours", then come back the next year, and sometimes even the year after that, for "final tours" . . . . . but this is really IT for the Crue. After playing together for 33 years, all four band members signed a legally binding "cessation of touring agreement". This should be the most awesome Motley Crue show there ever was - you know that this band will want to go out with a big bang! HINT: If you thought Tommy Lee's rollercoaster was wild, wait until you see his new mind-boggling stunt! Also, you never know what tricks Alice Cooper will bring to the stage. But, whatever he brings, you know that it will be something strange and so much fun! Discount tickets are still available for this show from Ticketmaster by using their me+3 4-Pack deal.
What a week this will be! With all of these great bands coming to town within a few days of each other, it will seem like a huge music festival is going on in Dallas.
Other bands also playing around town will be John Corabi at Trees on July 10, and Trapt will be coming to the same venue on July 17. Corabi was formerly a member of Motley Crue, Ratt, and several other bands at different times throughout the years. Also on the 10th, the House of Blues will have the Guitar Gods Tour 2014, with Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Hoey, and Bumblefoot. The Summerland Tour 2014 brings Everclear, Soul Asylm, and Eve 6 to the South Side Ballroom July 11. On July 17, the American Airlines Center will host Lady Gaga's artRave - The ARTPOP Ball.
If you can’t make it out to see these national acts, some of the best tribute bands in the Southwest will also be playing during this same week. Guns 4 Roses will be at the Gas Monkey Bar & Grill Friday, July 11. Back in Black, a tribute to AC/DC, will be at the House of Blues on July 12. The opening act on this night will be Infinite Journey. Swan Song, a tribute to Led Zeppelin, along with a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute called Texas Flood, will play at the Granada Theater on July 18. And on July 19 Toology, a Tool tribute band, will be at the House of Blues.
It looks like the next couple of weeks are going to be pretty hectic! I have been waiting for this week for months. Queen, KISS, Def Leppard, Tesla, Motley Crue, and Alice Cooper, all in one week! It can't get much better than that! (Well, actually it could . . . . I will be going to Phoenix for Round 2 of Motley Crue the next Saturday.) Hope to see you rockin' out! Party on!
