Numerous articles have been written concerning the end of time what may be expected as to the approach of that day, plus what transpires after that day. This author has written a number of those and without intent to belabor the issue, we need to study it even more thoroughly.
Most of you have read previous articles I've written concerning eternity after death. Let us attempt to visualize the basics of life in the Spirit realm. There are a number of things we can absolutely know, and then by the process of elimination, see what shapes up. It does indeed, become very interesting and appealing. Following are some biblical facts that we can know:
1. The physical matter that forms this entire universe, including flesh, blood, elements (i.e. chemical and mineral elements such as oxygen, hydrogen, etc) will be totally and completely eradicated. ( Most of you have read previous articles I've written concerning eternity after death. I don't want to belabor the issue, but after reading brother Coffman's article (reprinted above), I have become more and more convinced that I can partially, at least, visualize the basics of life in the Spirit realm. There are a number of things we can absolutely know, and then by the process of elimination, see what shapes up. It does indeed, become very interesting and appealing. Following are some biblical facts that we can know:
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" ( 2 Peter 3:9-12)
2. Paul records that he was taken up to the third heaven and he used the same word for "third heaven" as Luke used for "paradise" referred to by Jesus as where he and the penitent thief would rest. Paul says he could not "discern" whether or not he was in the body.
3. There will be no pain, no sickness, no dying, no crying, no gender, no hunger, no thirst, no bills, no worries. How do I know that? Because the Bible says that and besides, all of those are physical! Nothing left, except the spirit. God is a spirit. A spirit is not confined to an area. It is a mentality. A spirit does not grow, does not age, does not deteriorate. It is not affected by any physical thing, not by cold, not heat, not disease, not bullets, not explosions.
So, what can we expect that eternity in heaven will be like? We don't know fully how that will be, but Paul seems to have been super-impressed even in the third heaven. But it is a given that it will be wonderful indeed, realizing the fact that our Father knows everything there is to know, that he can do anything that can be done and that he wants us to be happy.
