A Catch 22 is a situation in which a desired outcome or solution is impossible to attain because of a set of inherently illogical rules or conditions. A Feminist Catch 22 is the modern day woman's dilemma. With women outnumbering men in college enrollment rates and slowly moving into the breadwinner role, it makes sense that men are struggling to figure out just how to feel about this modern family situation.
And since men nowadays have some sort of epidemic of extended adolescence, it seems to bother even the most enlightened man that a woman may out earn them. I have found that even though the modern day man will always say he supports feminism as a theory, this does not mean that at his core, his values and masculinity will agree. The idea of giving up power or control and trusting in the woman to provide is unsettling to the allegedly feminist supporting man. Even though these men may have degrees and chosen a lesser paying career path but noble roles nonetheless, the fact that the woman may out earn their salaries by double or sometimes triple does not sit well.
So the modern day woman is taught to be self sufficient, educated and earn good money. A man, the same. So why is it that somehow a woman is taught to feel bad about this situation or diminish her success and life victories? Perhaps it is the issue that men really don't want to give up control and rely on their spouse which in their mind puts them in a submissive state - where many women still gladly take this role and make it flourish. And it is their choice - with a college degree - to become a mom or continue to work. Why can't it be the same for a man? I don't know about you, but I'm sick of apologizing for my accomplishments. It's time for men to evolve, realize and worship what a goddess a true feminist can be.
