'The Fault In Our Stars' has finally been given a release date. The much anticipated adaptation of a young adult book, is due to be released in theaters on June 6, 2014. It will be released on the same day as Tom Cruise's new thriller, 'Edge of Tomorrow.'
The film will star Shailene Woodley as Hazel and Ansel Elgort as Gus. Woodley has been set to appear in numerous upcoming films and recently starred in a remake of 'Romeo and Juliet.' She first gained the attention of audiences in the film 'The Descendants,' starring George Clooney. Elgort is the lesser known of the two, and in addition to his roles in 'Carrie' and 'Divergent,' neither of which have been released yet, his acting career is just getting started. The film also stars Laura Dern and Willem Dafoe.
The book was written by John Green, a well-known author with young adult readers especially, and a big fan favorite. 'The Fault In Our Stars' tells the story of Gus and Hazel, who are two teenagers that meet in a cancer support group and fall in love shortly after. The film will be directed by Josh Boone, who previously did 'Stuck In Love,' an indie drama that was released in 2012.
The film is currently shooting on location in Pittsburgh and Amsterdam. Although viewers will have to wait until June to see Woodley and Elgort play lovers, they will also appear in 'Divergent together,' as brother and sister.
Since the film will not be released until next year, John Green is getting people excited in other ways through social media. He's been shooting video, Instagramming and tweeting teasers and casting reveals. The 2012 novel has spent 75 weeks on USA Today's Best Selling Books List, continuing to be a hit.
