One of the most fun-loving shows of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and a personal favorite of mine is 'Strut/The Fashionable MOMShow'. The show took place on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at The Stage venue inside Lincoln Center in New York City.
This season, quite appropriately, the theme was 'Strut....Empowering Women, Inspiring Change.' Generous sponsors included Whirlpool, Cottonelle and Vaseline. Retail powerhouse, Bloomingdale's, was a proud supporter of the show.
It can be difficult to associate with the models that call the runway their own wearing exquisite fashions during Fashion Week. The MOM Show is unique because women just like you and I with families, careers and a 'to do' list a mile long become models for an evening along with children and teens eager to strut their stuff. This particular show even included one dad. Some of the famous mom models that graced the runway included Alysia Reiner of "Orange is the New Black", WNBC's Darlene Rodriguez, Inside Edition's Victoria Recano along with Amber Sabathia, Alexis Stoudemire, Lauren Posada and Katina Taylor all dancing to the beats of 10 year old DJ Fulano, and throwing high fives with their kids as they worked it on the catwalk. All mom models in the show were "strutting" for a cause of their choice, a cause that each is passionate about supporting. Concerts in Motion, March of Dimes, Feeding America, Habitat for Humanity, Share Our Strength No Kid Hungry and Friends Fighting Breast Cancer were just some of the many causes represented on this fashionable evening.
Co-creators of the exciting event were The MOMS themselves; Denise Albert, Melissa Musen Gerstein and SWW Creative's Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Each of these women have a vivacious energy and enthusiasm that ignites spirit in all of us.
The clothing made the moms look stylish and chic and tots and teens looked absolutely adorable. From casual to career dressing to a voguish gown for a Cinderella evening or a trend-setting dress for a night on the town with your sweetheart, we saw it all as the women paraded down the runway with big smiles on their faces, getting the audience engaged in the world of fun and fashion. Even kids were having a wonderful time as they wore outfits that will be head-turners at school or at play. The model moms rocked the latest looks from Bloomingdales, Bungalow LV, Ramy Brook, Jay Godfrey, Torn by Ronny Kobo, Yosi Samra, Twenty, JustFab, Kay UNGER New York and Zeus+Dione.
The talent of Melissa Musen Gerstein and Denise Albert goes far beyond the ordinary. At this show, the duo unveiled their newest handbag line, Musen Albert, as they made the perfect accessory to accompany the outfits shown on this evening of style. The handbags combine functional with fashionable. Each handbag is infused with intuitive features for the woman with that 24/7 lifestyle. The full line becomes available in mid-October at ShopHQ.com.
New York Yankees CC Sabathia and former teammate Jorge Posada along with NY Knicks Star Amar’e Stoudemire were on hand to cheer on their wives and children walking the runway to support a cause close to them. Celebrity Mom Melissa Joan Hart was also front row along with popular fashionistas, Jay Manuel and June Ambrose, to support the fabulous moms that totally enjoyed strutting down the runway.
This was one of those shows with an uplifting effect and a wonderful way to end the style-packed day. Much in the way of effort, hard work and dedication go into making this show one of the most talked about and successful events of the season. It definitely made the list of my top five shows of the season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
